Q: What is the Hockessin Fire Company?

A: We are a non-profit volunteer fire company with over 100 active, dedicated, community-minded members. We are ordinary people who do extraordinary things in times of need.

Q: What’s with that crazy siren? It goes off at all hours of the day and night!

A: We activate our siren mainly for fire and rescue calls. It is a fail-safe way to notify members that there is an emergency and that help is needed at the station. Pagers, cellphones, radios and scanners can and often do fail. Whether its the middle of supper, the middle of the night or the middle of a project at work, the siren means that someone in your community needs help and your community firefighters are dropping everything to respond to an emergency.

Q: The costs of running a fire company must be staggering. How do you do it?

A: Our main sources of income are yearly grants from the county and state governments, our yearly fund drive, Hockessin Memorial Hall rentals (consider us for your next event!) and revenue from ambulance runs.

Q: How do I get involved?

A: Become a member! Stop by our station on Old Lancaster Pike and pick up an application or click here to download one!
